COMMUNICATING THE WISDOM THAT'S CHANGING THE WORLD
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Editor's Desk:Earth Cicle By Justine Willis Toms We recently received this letter from a listener: Dear friends at New Dimensions, are you still doing your Earth Circle peace meditation, 5 minutes a month, first day of the month, at 1600 Universal Time (noon EDT)? I have been doing it fairly faithfully since the mid-nineties, but I just wanted to check in to see if I still had company. Thanks for your reply. Rusty Thank you so much Rusty for reminding us that it is time for us to remind our listeners of this worldwide circle we call, Earth Circle. --Editor On the first day of every month we sit at the same moment for five minutes with thousands of others to visualize peace. Many of us have already experienced the deep nourishment that comes with sitting in circle. Imagine hundreds, thousands, even millions of people all over the world sitting regularlyat the same instant, once each month in dynamic friendship. Even though we are not physically together, we know that a shared intention is a powerful force even at a physical distance. We are convinced some surprises beyond our imaginings are in store for all of us as we make this commitment. Join with others to visualize dynamic harmony within the human species. We say "dynamic harmony" because we are an active species, so the harmony must be a dynamic one, as we actively move more deeply in rapport with our environment with each other, with other animals, with the plants, and with the planet. Together we commit to using this moment of prayer and meditation to focus on new levels of kindness, understanding, and compassion that are needed today as we collectively face the challenges of the the 21st century. Please bring your own form of practice to this circle. We encourage participation to come from the widest possible religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds in order to bring the strength of diversity to our circle. The circle represents the cross-cultural symbol of unity. In fact, humanity, as it is dispersed around the planet, is always in circle. If we could be seen from space, we would appear from any angle, to be in circle all the time. Earth Circle is a conscious recognition of that truth. The key is to keep it simple and short so that everyone is able to participate, since some people will be at their jobs and may not be able to take a longer break. For others it may be three or four o'clock in the morning. Most of us, though, can manage five minutes once a month, whatever our circumstances. We, at New Dimensions Media, commit to sitting quietly at a specified time on the first day of each month. (If you are in certain parts of Australia and Asia, it would be the second day of each month because of the International Date Line.) We suggest that this Earth Circle happen at 4:00 p.m. Greenwich Time, which would be 11:00 a.m. in New York, 10:00 a.m. in Chicago, 9:00 a.m. in Denver, 8:00 a.m. in San Francisco, etc. (See adjacent list). Five minutes may seem a short time; some may choose to sit for longerand that is fine. The most important aspect is the intention and motivation that we bring to benefit all life on the planet. Sitting for five minutes with the intention of deep healing for the planet and all its people is powerful forum. We suggest you calculate the starting time for your location by using the chart below. Put a little heart on your calendar and a note on your bathroom mirror and refrigerator. It is difficult to start a new habit so figure out ways to remind each otherPartner with someone and call one another just before the end of the month as a reminder. Please join us in a monthly Earth Circle! And let others knowCopy this article, put it in other newsletters and magazines. Let us know that you are joining us: info@newdimensions.org We chose 4 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time, on the first day of each month to allow most major populated areas to avoid middle-of-the-night times. For those who change your clocks for Daylight Savings Time or British Summer Time, please disregard the time change and continue sitting at the old time throughout the summer, to remain consistent with Greenwich Mean Time, which never changes. The chart below gives times for sample locations around the world.

Can we really use the law of attraction to have everything we want? Should we? A few years ago Dr. Lisa Love found herself at a crossroads, where the things she thought she wanted seemed at odds with where the universe was taking her. When she surrendered to the desires of her spirit, she found a new kind of abundance she hadn't realized she'd been yearning for. In the end she found a greater connection with spirit, and a life of service that brought new meaning to the beauty and relationships that were there all along. She explains, "When we don't have flexibility with the law of attraction, we think we know it all. We think we know what we want, we think we know how things should be, and we tell the universe, 'Do it this way. Do it that way.' And yet, if we leave that little space for uncertainty, for faith, we start to realize there’s a larger story that’s unfolding." Now Dr. Love has developed a system for moving beyond the law of attraction made popular by The Secret. She encourages us to be more focused on contribution rather than consumption in order to feel more truly fulfilled. (Hosted by Justine Willis Toms) Lisa Love, Ph.D., holds post-graduate degrees in transpersonal psychology, esoteric philosophy, spiritual psychology, and counseling. She is a counselor and coach with more than twenty-five years experience, and a relationship consultant for online and other media advisory outlets. Dr. Love is a syndicated columnist and the author of Beyond the Secret: Spiritual Power and the Law of Attraction (Hampton Roads 2007). Rumi has the magnificent idea that human consciousness is a continually evolving thing and that we never stop anywhere. We've dissolved as a mineral into plant life, and from plant life into animal life, and from there into human beings. We are not finished. Barks tells us that Rumi has asked, "What have I ever lost by dying? Why should I fear the next death?" Barks goes on to say, "We've died to all these different ways of being, regions of consciousness, and we will die to this one. But there is no need to fear it because it has always developed into something more magnificent. I just love that idea of the evolving soul." This deep conversation between Michael Toms and Coleman Barks will take you into the heart of approaching the divine and why we all love Rumi's poetry. Coleman Barks is a renowned poet and bestselling author. He was prominently featured in both of Bill Moyer's PBS television series on poetry, The Language of Life and Fooling with Words. He taught English and poetry at the University of Georgia for thirty years, and he now focuses on writing, readings, and performances. He is the author of many books including The Essential Rumi (Castle Books 1997), The Soul of Rumi (HarperOne 2002), Rumi: The Book of Love (HarperOne 2005), A Year with Rumi: Daily Readings (HarperOne 2007), Rumi: Bridge to the Soul: Journeys into the Music and Silence of the Heart (HarperOne 2007). What if we brought a more nurturing attitude to our nation's economic policy? What if we placed the same value on child care and health care as we do on prisons and warfare? Riane Eisler, renowned author of The Chalice and the Blade (HarperSanFrancisco 1988), draws on her visionary work on family, feminine leadership, and patriarchy to create solutions to the economic woes facing our nation and our world. She explains that the problem is an ongoing gender bias that exists under the radar, even into the twenty-first century. Even with a woman knocking on the door of the Presidency, our societyand our governmentstill views women, and the nurturing qualities of the feminine, as inferior. The result is a politics of scarcity, and a growing population of families living in poverty. Ms. Eisler explains, "As long as we don't make the invisible visible, we will continue to see this economic double standard at work, and policy makers will continue to tell us that we always have money for prisons or for weapons and wars. But these same policy makers will tell us somehow that there isn't enough money for health care, child care, paid parental leave. It makes no sense. This country is going to pay very, very dearly in economic terms for not investing in our human capital, not to speak of all the suffering that we're causing. But we’ve got to make that visible. Then we can change it." Riane Eisler holds degrees in sociology and law from the UCLA. She is a founding member of the General Evolution Research Group, and a commissioner of the World Commission on Global Consciousness and Spirituality, along with the Dalai Lama and other spiritual leaders. She is also co-founder of the Spiritual Alliance to Stop Intimate Violence, and president of the Center for Partnership Studies. Her books include Sacred Pleasure: Sex, Myth, and the Politics of the Body; New Paths to Power and Love (HarperSanFrancisco 1995), and The Real Wealth of Nations: Creating a Caring Economics (Berrett-Koehler 2007). Thomas Edison was an exceptional genius, but the greatest product of his genius was the establishment of a systematic approach to success that he believed anyone could emulate. In this conversation, Michael Gelb describes the easy-to-apply system of five competencies one needs to complete in order to find what Edison called, "Your own astounding potential." These skills are relevant to anyone who wants to be more creative and use more of their human potential. Gelb describes how one of the world's greatest inventors, Thomas Edison, worked, "Edison was always oriented to finding solutions. He was not afraid of facing, or defining any kind of problem, and he took on huge problems like how do you light the entire world, which was considered to be utterly impossible at the time." Tune in and discover how to wake up your own sleeping genius. Michael Gelb is the word's leading authority on the application of genius thinking to personal and organizational development and is internationally recognized as a pioneer in the fields of creative thinking, accelerated learning, and innovative leadership. He is the author of several books, including the international bestseller, How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci (Dell 2000) and his clients have included DuPont, General Electric, Merck, Microsoft, and Nike. What is beauty? Is your child beautiful? Your loved one? What about that neighbor who antagonizes you on a regular basis? Beauty is a quality that defies definition. You know it when you see it, but may not know why one object looks beautiful while another does not. J. Ruth Gendler looks beyond definitions to explore the feeling of beauty, and the wisdom that makes it possible to transform the world to a place that's more beautiful than we imagined it could be. She says, "We have identified beauty with the most superficial aspect of looks. But we all know that when we are in a place of harmony, whether it comes from music or nature or food, or the right colors and the right texture, when we think of beauty as harmony it has a profound ability to bring us into a truer alignment with ourselves." In this inspiriting conversation, Ms. Gendler will open your eyes so that the beauty in your world is not just a visual event, but a transformation of your heart. (Hosted by Justine Willis Toms) J. Ruth Gendler is an artist and a writer, and has been a teacher of writing and art for more than twenty years. She leads workshops in writing and creativity throughout the United States, and has been an artist in residence with California Poets in the Schools and Young Audiences of the Bay Area. She writes extensively about the transformative power of art, and in October 2007 the Lineage Dance Company presented a theater piece based on her book The Book of Qualities (HarperCollins 1988), now in its fortieth printing. Ms. Gendler is also the editor of Changing Light: The Eternal Cycle of Night and Day (Harper Collins 1991) and author of Notes on the Need for Beauty: An Intimate Look at an Essential Quality (Marlowe 2007).
