New Beginnings By Justine Willis Toms

Last month you heard actor Mike Farrell, talk about, among other things, his friendship with the late, John O'Donohue. John was an Irish poet, philosopher, and Catholic scholar. It is no wonder that Mike and countless others recall this extraordinary man who died much too soon. We are ever grateful for what he did leave us. I recently ran across the following poem and have shared it with several friends. They all agree it speaks to the times in which we are living. Everyone I've shared it with has said, "This is exactly what I'm feeling right now."

I encourage you to read it out loud to a loved one; read it out loud to yourself. Savoir each line; read each line twice and three times. Feel into the soul of the images and let them speak to your deepest longings as you feel into the magnificent void that is growing inside, still "unable to leave what you had outgrown" and finally, stepping out "onto new ground."

FOR A NEW BEGINNING

In out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.
For a long time it has watched your desire,
Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,
Noticing how you willed yourself on,
Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.
It watched you play with the seduction of safety
And the gray promises that sameness whispered,
Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,
Wondered would you always live like this.
Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,
A path of plenitude opening before you.
Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
That is one with your life’s desire.
Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

THE RHYTHM OF HEALING with REINHARD and CORNELIA FLATISCHLER
Program #3289 - Buy Now ($1.99/MP3 Download)
Full Program Description

Stop for just a moment, and listen to your heart beat. That steady pulse marks the rhythm of your life from before you were born until you draw your last breath. Chances are you rarely notice it. But what if that rhythm, and the many rhythms and beats that can act as counterpoint to one another, hold a key to healing your body, your mind, even your broken heart? Reinhard and Cornelia Flatischler work with nature's complex rhythms to unlock powerful dimensions of healing and consciousness. Through their research and their vast experience teaching TaKeTiNa workshops, in which participants express complex rhythms with voice and movement, the Flatischlers have demonstrated that these exercises can take us to a state of deep inner peace and timelessness. They can relieve pain, promote emotional health, and even reverse symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. As Cornelia explains, "Rhythm is just a tool we work in. But you're really going into a journey where you learn to listen to yourself, and this listening guides you more and more in a very, very deep state. You learn new strategies that truly nourish you, and help you enter a new place to deal with challenge or chaos or falling out of rhythm in your daily life." (Hosted by Justine Willis Toms)

Born in Vienna and trained as a concert pianist, Reinard Flatischler developed TaKeTiNa in 1970. In 1989 Cornelia Flatischler joined him as a co-leader, and enriched the teaching with her extensive knowledge of meditation, Tao Yoga, Tai Chi, and other healing arts. Reinhard. Flatischler sits on the Scientific Committee of the International Society for Music in Medicine, and is a member of the Society for Chronobiological Research in Vienna. He is the leader and composer for the group MegaDrums, and has produced some of the world's best-selling percussion CDs. He is the author of several books including The Forgotten Power of Rhythm: TaKeTiNa (Life Rhythm 1992) and The Power of Rhythm: The E-Sensual Rhythm Training for Beginners and Professionals. TURNING ANGER AND FEAR INTO COMPASSION AND COURAGE with JUDITH ORLOFF, M.D.
Program #3281 - Buy Now ($1.99/MP3 Download)
Full Program Description

"There is a deep spiritual meaning to our emotions. The little frustrations of everyday life, the angers that we have, these are all an impetus to grow larger, to grow more enlightened." This all-encompassing view of the role emotions play in our lives and in our personal evolution is the basis for Judith Orloff's teaching and her practice as a psychiatrist. By focusing on what we have to gain from difficult emotions, she has bridged the chasm between conventional biomedical treatments and a deeply spiritual approach to suffering. With the practical good sense of a scientist and the wisdom of an enlightened teacher, she will help you understand your own emotional patterns and discover the gifts that lie just beneath the surface when you're angry or afraid. When you do, Dr. Orloff explains, "you begin to free up yourself and your life. You find hope even when depressed. You find courage even when afraid. You find connection even when lonely. You find patience even when you’re frustrated. When you have a bit of success with that, you can feel how liberating it is, and gain increasing inner peace. And that peace ripples out into the world."

Judith Orloff is a board certified psychiatrist and assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at U.C.L.A. She has been a presenter at medical schools, hospitals, universities, the American Psychiatric Association, Fortune Magazine's Most Powerful Women Summit, and alternative and traditional health forums. She is the author of several books including the bestsellers Dr. Judith Orloff's Guide to Intuitive Healing: Five Steps to Physical, Emotional and Sexual Wellness (Three Rivers Press 2001) and Positive Energy: Ten Extraordinary Prescriptions to Transform Fatigue, Stress and Fear into Vibrance, Strength and Love (Harmony Books 2004), and her newest book, Emotional Freedom: Liberate Yourself from Negative Emotions and Transform Your Life (Harmony Books 2009). YOUR SPIRITUAL CAPITAL IN A STRUGGLING ECONOMY with ERNEST CHU
Program #3282 - Buy Now ($1.99/MP3 Download)
Full Program Description

How is your stock portfolio doing these days? Are you having difficulty keeping up with your mortgage? Is your blood pressure rising along with prices the grocery store? Ernest Chu can help you discover that you're actually wealthier than you think. After a successful career on Wall Street, a devastating personal financial crisis led him to realize that his greatest wealth had always been his spiritual assets. Once he began to apply the principles of ancient and contemporary spiritual teachings to his knowledge of building wealth, he found a flow of abundance that enriched his bank account as well as his sense of self-worth. Mr. Chu has found that, "what people don't realize is that what they think as real—which is the money, the stocks, the bonds—all of that is really a figment of our collective imagination. We have found ways to make these things real because we have agreed upon methods of valuing them. The only real currency is spiritual currency." He offers practical guidelines that show you how to value your spiritual assets—your kindness, your talents, your love—the way you’ve been taught to value money, so that you'll find prosperity and abundance in every area of your life.

Ernest Chu has more than thirty-five years experience as an investment banker, corporate executive, and entrepreneur who has created more than $1.5 billion in market value for his clients. He is also an ordained pastor serving the Center for Spiritual Living in Ft. Lauderdale, one of the largest Religious Science churches in the Southeast. As a popular teacher of the metaphysics of spiritual abundance, he has presented workshops in seventy spiritual centers in twenty states and lectured throughout the world. His articles have appeared in Corporate Finance Week, M.B.A. World, and The Wall Street Journal. Mr. Chu is the author of Soul Currency: Investing Your Inner Wealth for Fulfillment and Abundance (New World Library 2008). To learn more about the work of Ernest Chu go to www.soulcurrency.org

Topics Explored in this Dialogue:
  • How you can find a greater sense of value in the simple gifts of your heart
  • Why money and the stock market are really a figment of your imagination
  • How you can use intention and your spiritual assets to generate capital

RECLAIMING THE FEMININE with GAIL STRAUB
Program #3290 - Buy Now ($1.99/MP3 Download)
Full Program Description

How many women are living their Mother's unlived lives? Or, their father's version of life? How do we find the balance of freedom and responsibility in choosing our lives? What is feminine wisdom and what are the most common ways a woman loses her innate female wisdom? Gail Straub has the vision and experience to help us understand what it means to be feminine and empowered in the twenty-first century. In her ongoing quest to mine the greatest truths from every era, she's found answers that let her strike a balance between contemporary roles and the archetypes that call to us from a deeper place. She makes it clear, though, that the journey is not a solitary one. She explains, "Community [as can be created with circles] is one of the most central, critical practices to a healthy lifestyle, to a lifestyle that balances feminine wisdom with masculine wisdom... The hard part is carving out the time to meet, because our lives are very, very busy and engaged. But this is our lifeblood. This is what sustains us." Ultimately, Ms. Straub points the way to creating relationships and community that sustain us and enable each of us to express the feminine creativity and wisdom that are uniquely our own. (Hosted by Justine Willis Toms)

A leading authority on empowerment, Gail Straub is co-director of the Empowerment Institute. In 1992 she created Grace: A Spiritual Growth Training Program designed to integrate spiritual development with social and ecological responsibility. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Omega Institute and the Russian American Humanitarian Initiative, and is a faculty member at the Edge International School for Leadership and Spirituality in the Netherlands. Her books include The Rhythm of Compassion: Caring for Self, Connecting with Society (Empowerment Institute 2008) and Returning to My Mother’s House: Taking Back the Wisdom of the Feminine (High Point 2008). To learn more about the work of Gail Straub go to www.empowermenttraining.com

Topics Explored in this Dialogue:
  • How you can use play as an antidote to conflict
  • How knowing your roots can feed your spirituality
  • How you can empower others simply by listening
  • Why choosing not to have children can be a deeply feminine choice
  • What every woman loses when her mother dies
