COMMUNICATING THE WISDOM THAT'S CHANGING THE WORLD
|
||||||||||||
There is a cloaked entity living in the circle of my life. Unwittingly, I've invited this disconcerting tyrant in. Its name is Not Enough Time. It doesn't come in the front door with big smiles and robust hellos. Unannounced, it sneaks in the back door and hunkers down in the shadow. When I want to write a special letter or phone a friend, or even sit and watch the birds feeding in the garden, it whispers its name in my ear, "Not Enough Time." It has a large but faceless presence in the circle of my life and I have rarely called it to accountability. But now I call, "Come into the light of my circle; I invoke you, oh dark, hidden master of my life, be accountable as are the others. I name you now—I know you now—I acknowledge you now. Never again will you invisibly rule my life. You are now part of the circle and no longer the silent saboteur! Come take your seat. Grapple and debate with me in the light of day. I welcome your wisdom. But be warned there will be moments when you'll be voted down and my entire inner government will adjourn to the garden to smell the flowers and sit among the peas and just be." |

Change is stressful, often frightening. At a time when everything around you is changing, it's essential to monitor how you respond to change, and to cultivate healthy ways of dealing with the fears that often arise, when the status quo dissolves before your eyes. M. J. Ryan has developed sound strategies that will help you understand your innate coping mechanisms, and learn to take a more conscious approach to life’s transitions, so you can create the positive outcomes you desire. She sees this time of global change, as an opportunity to move toward deeper connection with one another and with ourselves, because, "we really are being asked to learn how to work and relate and live in new ways. The more we can turn to one another and use one another as resources, and support one another in what we’re doing—that’s what this time is about." By applying her simple techniques you’ll create a network of partners among friends, family, and community, and reconnect with the bedrock of your own nature that survives no matter how much the world changes from day to day. (Hosted by Justine Willis Toms) M. J. Ryan is a contributing editor of Health and Good Housekeeping magazines. Her articles have appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and numerous other national publications. She was one of the creators of the bestselling Random Acts of Kindness book series, and author of This Year I Will... (Broadway Books 2006), The Happiness Makeover (Broadway Books 2005), and AdaptAbility: How to Survive Change You Didn’t Ask For (Broadway Books 2009). To learn more about the work of M. J. What does it take to create a library—in particular, a research library worthy of Stanford University? Robert Trujillo has been developing special collections at Stanford for more than three decades. In this interview he shares the fascinating story of how the vast literary resources we rely on are generated. Learn how he's unearthed primary source and antiquarian materials for the university's Judaic Hebraic archives and Mexican-American studies department, fifteenth-century maps of Africa, John Steinbeck's personal papers, and more. You'll even hear about how our own New Dimensions interviews became part of the Stanford archives. Mr. Trujillo tells us, "All of our collections are built with the very express intent to be of interest to a freshman doing a ten-page paper, and to support doctoral level research that would result in a dissertation and then, hopefully a university press published book." Together these collections serve as a vast public resource and record that’s a treasure for us all. Roberto Trujillo is the head of Special Collections and the Frances and Charles Field Curator of Special Collections at the Stanford University Libraries in Stanford, California. He is the recipient of numerous awards and acknowledgements for his valuable contributions. Mr. Trujillo is co-editor with Hsiao-Yun Chu of New Views on R. Buckminster Fuller (Stanford University Press 2009). To learn more about the Stanford University Libraries visit www-sul.stanford.edu.

Kim Rosen is a lover of poetry—the words, the rhythm, the music of it, and especially the way it touches us in the deepest places. In her darkest days it was poetry that called to her, giving her solace, and leading her to her spiritual path. Now she rejoices in it, and lends her voice to its magic in a way that will remind you how moved you were the first time you met your favorite poem. Whether it’s been hours or decades since you sat quietly with a verse in your heart, as you listen to Ms. Rosen recite her own favorite passages, you’ll feel that connection rekindled, their shamanic power speaking to your unconscious at a level beyond where any mere words can reach. That’s because, as she explains, "Poetry is our most ancient form of prayer. To people who think they don’t love poetry, if you’ve ever prayed, if you’ve ever loved a song, if you’ve ever loved a passage from the bible or the Koran, you have loved poetry." Join us for this conversation, and allow yourself to fall in love all over again. Kim Rosen is an award winning poet, spoken word artist, healer, and teacher, a graduate of Yale University with an M.F.A. in poetry from Sarah Lawrence College. She has been on the faculty of Wisdom University, the Omega Institute, and the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. She has delivered poems, lectures, ceremony, and workshops in a myriad of settings from the crypt of Chartres Cathedral to the New Orleans Superdome. Ms. Rosen is co-creator of four CDs of poetry and music, and author of Saved by a Poem: The Transformative Power of Words (Hay House 2009). Every day, it appears, the news about climate change is worse, as is the precarious balance of global politics. We seem bent on destruction, and it’s often difficult to see how we can possibly turn things around before it’s too late. But as bad as things are, Bruce Lipton and Steve Bhaerman see our dire state as evidence of an evolutionary shift, as profound as the transformation of a caterpillar to a butterfly. The earth and its biosphere is a living entity, they say, and our human species has the power to generate a cosmic transition to a new way of being based on community and harmony. Sound too good to be true? Cellular biologist Lipton brings has the science to back it up, and Mr. Bhaerman gives us the prescription for change, as he explains, "Our responsibility as a cell in the human system, in the body politic, is that we make a contribution and that we take care of ourselves as we take care of one another. If we are all tuned to the fact that life works better when there’s goodness, then that’s a good place to start." Bruce Lipton, Ph.D., is a leading voice in the new biology bridging science and spirit. He has taught at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and done research at Stanford University. He is the author of The Biology of Belief (Mountain of Love/Elite Books 2005). Steve Bhaerman is an author, humorist, political and cultural commentator, whose books include Swami for Precedent (Wake Up Laughing Press 2004). Dr. Lipton and Mr. Bhaerman are co-authors of Spontaneous Evolution: Our Positive Future (and a Way to Get There from Here) (Hay House 2009). Small Pleasures : Finding Grace in a Chaotic World by Justine Willis Toms THE WINNER OF 2009 Award in the Spiritual Books Category Small Pleasures: Finding Grace in a Chaotic World by Justine Toms Announced at the 13th Annual Awards Event of the Coalition of Visionary Resources |
Michael and I love to watch movies. It is a magical art-form. They inform, inspire, and touch the heart and soul in so many ways.
Did you know that many visionary, soulful movies are made every year but never get into the theaters? Independent, spiritual filmmakers are creating movies with heart and soul, movies that really matter. Until now, though, hardly anybody got to see them.
Spiritual Cinema Circle® is a DVD club that sends out 4 features and short films in the mail each month on DVD. You keep the DVDs. The movies you get are full-length features, both dramas and comedies, short films, and documentaries on mind-opening subjects. They are about many different subjects, but they all share common elements: All our movies are carefully-chosen to provide genuine nourishment for the heart and soul, a much-needed nutrient at a time when more and more Hollywood movies are violent, profane and devoid of meaning. These movies inspire wonder, insight, deep feeling and transcendence. Above all, they make you feel better about being a human being.
Consider joining Spiritual Cinema Circle by using the link below. You can start with a free trial.
