OF RUMI AND APOCALYPSE

Guest: Andrew Harvey
Program 2451

Host: Michael Toms
Interview Date: 3/11/1994
Program Length: 1 Hour

Media: MP3 Download

Price: $1.99
Program Description:
One of the most powerful, prolific and profoundly mystical poets in history is brought alive by an eloquent modern-day mystical writer with an eye to the larger human story. Here Andrew Harvey tells us of the life and work of Rumi, an ecstatic thirteenth-century Sufi poet. He expands Rumi's wondrous messages into a transcendental guide for our troubled times. Warning against denial on one hand and naive acceptance of gurus on the other, Harvey inspires us to face the world's pain directly, and to take the possibility of apocalypse seriously. But he also inspires awe and wonder at the divine power and possibilities available to us if only "human beings could see how drastic the situation is--and could also see that the divine is here, and wanting to help, and trying to seep through every crack." 1 hour

Harvey was raised in India and educated at Oxford. He is a renowned and distinguished mystical scholar, Rumi translator and explicator, poet, novelist, spiritual teacher and writer, and architect of Sacred Activism. He is the author of many books including Light Upon Light: Inspirations from Rumi (Meeramma 1988), Hidden Journey: A Spiritual Awakening (Henry Holt 1991), The Way of Passion: A Celebration of Rumi (North Atlantic 1994), The Direct Path (Broadway Books 2000), and Son of Man: The Mystical Path to Christ (Tarcher/Putnam 1998).
