A NEW PLANETARY CONFEDERACY: THE IROQUOIS LEGACY

Guest: Jean Houston
Program 2523

Host: Michael Toms
Interview Date: 4/24/1995
Program Length: 1 Hour

Media: MP3 Download

Price: $1.99
Program Description:
American democracy was not inherited from ancient Greece. The Iroquois nation's peaceful, democratic system of governance informed and inspired the founding fathers of the United States. This dialogue explores the roots of democracy in Iroquois legend, in the original story of Hiawatha and how he helped Deganawidah, the legendary Peacemaker. Also included is a glimpse of New Dimensions' vision of worldwide, 24-hour positive-audio broadcasts, and Houston's own eloquent vision of honoring cultural integrity while moving toward planetary awakening. "Change the story, you change perception," she says. "Change perception, you change the world." 1 hour

She is the author of many books including The Hero and the Goddess (Ballantine 1992), Public Like a Frog (Quest 1993) and co-author of Manual for the Peacemaker (Quest 1995).

Topics explored in this dialogue:
  • Houston's luminous vision for the new millennium
  • The role of Native Americans at a U.N. religious leaders conference
  • How Houston's Mystery School explores human possibilities
  • The real story of Hiawatha
  • The Iroquois influence on European political philosophy
  • The three aspects of peaceful, just government and society
  • The expanding vision of New Dimensions' broadcasting outreach
  • Accessing personal and cultural growth through electronic networks
  • How real cultural exchange "hides" behind economic white noise
