Program Description: Marilyn King says, "I want everyone to know what I know and be as excited as I am, because I believe that we are standing on the brink of peace." She doesn't say this lightly; rather she says it with conviction because she's been immersed in the activity of peace building for more than three decades. She's experienced the indicators of peace breaking out, even though it is not being reported in the daily news. She reminds us of the words of the late Willis Harman, scientist, futurist and former president of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, "The negative belief that peace is not possible is the greatest impediment to achieving peace." King understands this because she considers herself an "ordinary" Olympian who expanded her mental capacity to imagine she could participate in both the 1972 and 1976 games competing in the Pentathlon. She is now using that ability to help peace break out on the planet. King is joined by Jean Houston who says, "We know that it is our job in this tremendous open moment of the planet's history to make peace--Peace that is so rich, so full of flavor that it makes sense to make peace." Marilyn King is a two time Olympian and founder of Beyond Sports, an organization that seeks to extend the application of imagery and related skills to a broader arena of individual and social concerns, including world peace. Jean Houston is a teacher who has worked in over forty cultures in the creation of the notion of a possible society of social artists. She is the author of dozens of books including A Passion for the Possible (HarperSanFrancisco1997), Manual for the Peacemaker : An Iriquois Legend to Heal Self & Society (Quest Books 1995) The Possible Human (Tarcher / St. Martin's Press 1982) and Jump Time: Shaping Your Future in a world of Radical Change (Jeremy P. Tarcher / Putnam, 2000). Avon Mattison is one of the founding visionaries of the International Day of peace and is founder of the Pathways to Peace an international not-for-profit peace building, educational, and consulting organization and a United Nations NGO participant. Robert Muller is former Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, who was there at its formation. He is Chancellor Emeritus of the University For Peace. He has authored many books including Most of All, They Taught Me Happiness (Doubleday 1978), Birth of a Global Civilization (WHC 1991) and Prophet: The Hatmaker's Son: The Life of Robert Muller (East Beach Productions 2003)
