THE EVOLUTION OF DARWIN'S MESSAGE

Guest: David Loye
Program 3230

Host: Michael Toms
Interview Date: 12/3/2007
Program Length: 1 Hour

Media: MP3 Download

Price: $1.99
Program Description:
In Charles Darwin's The Descent of Man, the term "survival of the fittest" appears twice, and one of those entries is an apology for the other. The word "love" appears ninety-five times. Darwin writes about moral sensitivity ninety-two times, and about mind and the brain two hundred times. With this discovery, Dr. David Loye identified Darwin as an early humanistic psychologist, and even finds a scientific foundation for the appearance of Jesus. And yet, this important part of Darwin's work remained hidden for more than one hundred years. In this deeper understanding of the work, Dr. Loye finds clues to solving the political, cultural, and environmental devastation he sees in the world today. He points to Darwin's insights and tells us, "What it is saying over and over again is, if we live by these precepts that come out of all this work-love, moral sensitivity, education-if we do all these things, we don't need more research. If we simply do all these things, we have a chance. If we don't, we're not going to make it. We're facing the wipe-out of our humanity." 1 Hour

David Loye, Ph.D., is a psychologist, systems scientist, evolution theorist, and cofounder of the General Evolution Research Group and the Darwin Project, and with Riane Eisler of the Center for Partnership Studies. For the past twenty years he has worked with other scientists from around the world in development of the new fields of evolutionary systems science, chaos and complexity theory, and in studies of Darwin's life and works. Dr. Loye is the author of twenty books, including Darwin's Lost Theory: Who We Really Are and Where We're Going (Benjamin Franklin Press 2007) and Bankrolling Evolution: Money, Politics, and Science (Benjamin Franklin Press 2007).
